LUKE 22:15-19

Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. [16] For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” [17] Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. [18] For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.” [19] He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

The Passover commemorated Israel’s escape from Egypt when the blood of a lamb painted on their doorframes had saved their firstborn sons from death. This event foreshadowed Jesus’ work on the cross. As the spotless Lamb of God, his blood would be spilled in order to save his people from the penalty of death brought by sin.

Christ spoke the words about his body and his blood when he offered the fourth and last cup. The Lord’s Supper is not just a symbol but a very important reminder of the holy act of God shedding His blood for the sins of men and have Eternal life with God. There is a strengthening of our faith and spirit in taking the communion. We shall partake of this supper in a worthy way and with a reverential fear of the Lord in our daily lives.

The Lord’s Supper always reminds us to be humble showing that once we were great sinners and received the gift of salvation through Lord Jesus Christ. “To us you have graciously given spiritual food, drink, and Eternal life. Thus we should be thankful and humbled in taking of Holy Communion. The cup of thanksgiving also reminds us to bring the Good News message of the Crucified Saviour to lost perishing souls in the world and unreached Nations.
